Liverpool have made a major breakthrough in their pursuit of Lyon captain Nabil Fekir

‘We have not set a base price because we have not discussed this yet,’ said Aulas.

And on Friday, they took that notion a step further with a strong statement via their official Twitter account.

‘Olympique Lyonnais categorically denies the false information disseminated by many media about the transfer of Nabil Fekir to Liverpool,’ it reads.

‘In this period of transfers where the slightest rumour is often presented as a reality, Olympique Lyonnais recalls that only the information disseminated by the club on its website is authentic.’

However, Liverpool Sporting Director Michael Edwards has remained in discussions in an attempt to push the deal through and the club’s willingness to get business completed has been illustrated by the fact members of Liverpool’s medical team are waiting to fly to Paris to complete a medical.

Manchester City are one of four clubs interested in Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz, according to Calciomercato.com. The Italian website states that Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also in the race for the 23-year-old.

Reports in Spain have claimed that Napoli would demand as much as €60m (£53m) for the playmaker, and the Spaniard is clearly a player who has impressed scouts from the European elite based on the clubs who have reportedly shown an interest.

Ruiz signed for Napoli from Real Betis for €30m in July 2018 and has gone on to get his first cap for Spain’s senior side back in July.

During his first season in Italy, the midfielder scored seven goals and provided three assists in 40 appearances, and he has continued his good form this campaign, having scored in the 4-1 win against Lecce earlier this month.

With David Silva having confirmed his decision to leave the Etihad at the end of this season, could Ruiz be his replacement? We shall have to wait and see.
